When I learned that the word hysteria comes from the Greek word for uterus, I was...utterly hysterical. (Pun intended). The all-too-familiar narrative that women are uncontrollable and too emotional was, it turns out, deliberately designed into our world.

A bit of research and personal experience uncovered that Hysteria has historically been used as a catchall diagnosis to explain away the complexities of a gender that has been misunderstood.

Hysteria was born out of the desire to highlight those complexities, crack open the black box of hysteria, and celebrate the messiness of what it means to be a woman.

Each piece of jewelry begins in Jackie’s Brooklyn studio and has gone through countless iterations, so that every detail is just right.

We use a variety of techniques including metalsmithing and lost wax casting, and work with local craftsmen to ensure thoughtful creation throughout the entire process. All of our jewelry is handmade, one piece at a time, from our hands to yours.
